History

The Foundation was established in 2001 by a group of parents and staff members who were concerned about the lack of technology at Deer Canyon. Since that time, the Foundation has purchased LCD projectors, computers and computer furniture for the school as well as provided computer training.

While Deer Canyon’s original focus was to raise money for the technological needs of our school, the recent statewide budget cuts that are impacting the District have challenged us with raising money to fund other necessary school programs and needs. Poway Unified continues to be one of the lowest unified school district in San Diego.

The Foundation still works toward supplying “state-of-the-art” technology in each classroom. However, over the years the Foundation has also been tasked with helping to maintain critical learning programs for student enrichment in the areas of reading, music, arts and physical education.

The DC Foundation transformed into the The Deer Canyon Elementary Parent Staff Organization founded in 2023 to cultivate financial support to enhance the learning experience for students at Deer Canyon. We continue the  mission of the previous Deer Canyon PTA and Foundation organizations,  with a look toward the future by striving to provide the types of enriched learning opportunities for all students as they prepare for a diverse society and ever-changing world. The DCPSO is committed to being good stewards of donations and making decisions for financial support on what is best for the Deer Canyon students/staff.
